Introduction of structure, its classification

Structure which is the important that should be analysed for the structure safe to exist. Before it, its important to brief information of structure, its part and its classification. Structure is assemblage of number of components like slabs, beams, columns and foundations which remain in equilibrium. For classification of structure, it is based on different parameters such as shape, size, strength etc. A broad classification in civil engineering are two types:

Pin Jointed Structure

Rivolted & bolted joints in steel structure are treated as pin-jointed structure.

Rigid Jointed Structure

The reinforced concrete framed structure treated as rigid-jointed structure.

Skeleton structures may also classified into either

Two Dimensional or Plane Structure:

A Structure having all its member in one plane is called plane structure/frame.

Three dimensional or space structure:

A structure having members in three dimensions is called space structure/frame.

Steel Trusses, Lattice girders and transmission towers are example of skeleton structures which are analysed as pin-jointed structure.

Reinforced concrete building frames, rigid frames and bents, bow string girders and open spandrel arches are example of rigid-jointed skeleton structure.

The other category of structure is Surface Structure, include those structures which can be idealised to a surface.
